Q: Why do I need a personal trainer?
A: The answer is simple. When you need to have your car worked on you see a mechanic, when you are sick you see a doctor, when you want to learn to dance you take lessons from a professional dance instructor, when you need to reshape your body and better your health you see a personal trainer. By hiring a personal trainer you eliminate the guesswork that comes with getting to your goals and, more importantly, you make sure that you are getting to them in a safe manner.
Q: How often should I meet with a personal trainer?
A:
2 Sessions Per Week - You will need to do cardiovascular exercise outside of our personal training sessions and may need to do some additional resistance training if you are looking to add a significant amount of muscle mass.
Description: You want to see serious results but you’re not in a huge hurry to get them. If you want dramatic changes with 2x per week you will need to do some work outside of our training sessions depending on your goals.
3 Sessions Per Week - You do not need to do any extra work outside of our session’s but if you would like, you are encouraged to do so.
Description: You want major results and may not have much time to train alone or do not want to train outside of our sessions. You can attain even more incredible results with a little outside training. Don't be surprised if you lose 20lbs or more within 2-3 months.
4 Sessions Per Week - You do not need to do cardio outside of our personal training sessions, but 1 day outside of our sessions may be beneficial to help achieve astonishing results.
Description: You want unbelievable results fast and you are ready to work hard to get them. Your metabolism and energy levels will go through the ceiling and people you see every day will be doing double takes and asking what you have been doing to look so great.
5 Sessions Per Week - There is no need at all to train outside of our personal training sessions.
Description: You are a machine ready to completely recreate your body and you won't recognize yourself in 12 weeks. Anything and everything is possible when training at this level. I can’t stress enough how dramatic the changes will be. In all likely hood you will be able to stand in front of a mirror and see visible changes every 3-4 days.
Q: Where can I meet with my personal trainer for my sessions?
A: Most personal trainers train their clients out of a gym. Some provide in home training and some even take you to the great outdoors to perform your workouts on occasion. Be sure to ask a potential trainer where they conduct their sessions so you can select the most convenient option for you.
Q: How do I select the personal trainer that is right for me?
A: First, you want to make sure a trainer is qualified. Your trainer should be able to provide proof of his/her degree or certification from a highly respected organization such as NASM, ACE, ACSM, or NSCA. Next, you want to meet with your trainer face to face and ask any questions you may have. A good trainer will NEVER charge for a consultation, and will want to answer all of your questions.
Furthermore, there are many trainers who have a degree and/or certification but could not teach a cow to moo, let alone safely and effectively train you. Ask for references; a great trainer will ALWAYS have satisfied clients. Ask for testimonials and phone numbers so you can speak with them. Happy clients love to talk about their trainer and will be happy to speak with you. Don’t just take the references, actually call them!!!!
Q: How much does a personal trainer cost?
A: Rates vary from trainer to trainer. They can be affected by area, qualifications, if you come to the trainer or them to you, and can also be affected by how many sessions you purchase. The average industry rates are $30.00/session to $65.00/session. Be wary of trainers that lure you in with lower rates. In these cases, you will often get what you pay for (fewer services from a poorly qualified individual). In the fitness industry you can quite often associate low price with low quality.
Q: What if I cannot afford to meet with my trainer for each of my workouts during the week? Is it still worth it?
A: Absolutely! While I personally believe you should invest in a minimum of 1 session per week, you can ALWAYS benefit from having a personal trainer with you. While you will get better results by having your trainer with you more often, you will still see greater improvement and be able to approach your workouts with more confidence than by guessing what to do on your own.
Q: What kind of results can I expect?
A: Whether your goal is to lose weight or put on muscle, your trainer should be able to provide you with visible or measurable results in 4-6 weeks, and quite often, much sooner. If your goals are simply health related or specific to rehabilitation your results may vary but your trainer should be able to provide you with a time table outlining what results you can expect.
Q: How do I get started?
A: Once you have selected your trainer, set a consultation with them by contacting them via e-mail or phone so you can discuss in detail your goals, needs, and how your trainer can help you meet those goals. You can also ask the trainer any other questions you may have about them and what specific steps they will take to help you.
